Cynthia Elohor Emekako popularly referred to as CY with "Thia’s Couture"
as a brand name, is a Theatre Artiste, Model, Fashion Designer/Illustrator, and a Costumier.
CY graduated from the department of Theatre Arts & Mass Communication
in the University of Benin, and asides having costumed Theatrical productions in
Dance, Music, & Drama including short Comedy Skits, Thia’s first and most recent
biggest yet fashion show project recently organised by her was titled “Naija’s Culture
Closet”. This Closet projected the Nigerian culture in a very fantastic way through
fashion in the modern era and looked into the cultural designs from them in
order to communicate their art to the world.
As the Campus Student Designer of the year 2015, CY has always had a
knack for fashion which is always evident in her choice of clothes and how
she puts them together.
Now CY has come to the fashion world to stay and bloom in the
industry. I saw firsthand her collection for Naija’s Culture Closet, and I must
say it was fascinating! I was really impressed with her creativity and play of designs with the different Nigerian fabrics from
'Aso Oke' down to 'Akwa Oche'.
CY obviously has plans to give more to the fashion industry starting by
making the NCC (Naija’s Culture Closet) an annual fashion show as she believes
there’s more to explore on our culture with fashion, and that I agree!
